Perry Frank, known for his innovative approach to ambient music, is excited to announce the release of his highly anticipated album, titled ATLAS, available from January 10th on all major streaming platforms and in a limited edition CD released by the Argentine label Cyclical Dreams.

Perry Frank's new work, marking a significant evolution of his sound, explores ethereal soundscapes, enriched by delicate electronic and natural nuances. With this album, the artist invites us to embark on an introspective journey where time and space dissolve into a continuous flow of vibrations and sensations.

"Atlas is the result of a long process of research and connection with the environment around me," said Francesco Perra, aka Perry Frank.

"I wanted to create an album that is both a refuge and a challenge, one that transports the listener to another dimension where emotions can flow freely, without boundaries."

"The core idea behind this new work was inspired by the severe environmental crisis that our planet Earth and all of its creatures (human and non-human) are suffering from due to pollution, war, climate change, deforestation, and poverty."

The title ATLAS is derived from Greek mythology, named after one of the Titans (pre-Olympian gods) condemned to hold up the Earth for eternity. The difficulty of his role can be seen as an analogy for today's human condition.

The album stands out for its use of ethereal guitar sounds, combined with tape loops, analog synthesizers, and sound manipulations that create a sense of temporal suspension.

Each track is an immersive experience, capable of evoking a nearly bipolar mix of serenity and dark sensations paired with nocturnal and melancholic guitar soundscapes that float over tape loops until they become unrecognizable drones, almost incorporeal, ethereal like ghosts.

Perry Frank's music is characterized by a fusion of styles and influences, ranging from Ambient music to electronics, with a touch of Post-Rock.

Perry Frank is a composer and music producer known for his innovative and experimental approach to composition, often blending synthetic sounds with acoustic tones, creating complex and dynamic atmospheres.

His music tends to be minimalistic and refined, with an intelligent use of sound textures. His soundscapes evoke intense emotions, yet never in an overwhelming way.

His attention to detail in tonal nuances creates music that is both deep and meditative, while also capable of surprising with sonic twists. Moreover, Perry Frank stands out for his ability to creatively incorporate technology, using analog instruments like multi-track cassette recorders with tape loops and digital effects for guitar to push the boundaries of musical composition.

This approach allows him to create pieces that range from conceptual to introspective, always maintaining a strong connection with emotion and artistic exploration.

In summary, Perry Frank's music is a sonic journey that intertwines modernity and tradition, experimentation

and emotional depth. His main sources of inspiration include Brian Eno, Basinski, Harold Budd, Fennesz, Amulets, Pink Floyd, Carbon Based Lifeforms, and Robin Guthrie.

The album cover reflects the minimalist and meditative aesthetic of the project, with images that evoke both a sense of peace and unease, as well as melancholy.

"ATLAS" marks a new phase in Perry Frank's artistic journey, as he continues to push the boundaries of the ambient genre.

With the release of this album, the artist is set to capture new listeners, offering them a sensory escape into the heart of ambient music. The album will be available on all digital platforms starting January 10th and in a limited edition on CD.

I've written, recorded and produced Atlas between November 2023 and August 2024.

My new album features ten new tracks ranging from Ambient to Drone and Post-Rock music. I've written all the songs at my HomeLand Studios in Iglesias, Sardinia.

The basic idea of this new work was inspired by the very serious environmental situation that our planet Earth and all its creatures (human and not) are suffering, due to pollution, war, climatic changes, deforestation and poverty.

The title ATLAS, derives from Greek Mythology, in fact it's the name of one of the Titans (the pre-Olympian Gods) condemned to hold up the earth for eternity.

The trouble of his role can be seen as an analogy of the human condition nowadays. Every track of the album starts from a tape loop featuring sounds or white noise and then evolves with guitar and synth textures, layered on each others.

The whole album features sad and gloomy feelings paired with nocturnal and melancholic guitar soundscapes which float on the tape loops until they become unrecognizable drone sounds, almost incorporeal, ethereal just like ghosts.

My method of working when I write new music is often based on improvisation.

I usually start to write a song with my guitar ( I've played a Fender Stratocaster on the album) and my pedalboard (Strymon and Hologram Electronics pedals are often in the effects chain).

I use to jam for hours, changing pedals position and settings until I find a good guitar tone together with a chord progression or a drone I like, looking for inspiration in everything all around me, for example from the news I read on my phone or on the pc during the pauses.

The second step is to record the ideas I come up with, and try to arrange a song, writing bass lines or synth addirional tracks.Sometimes I start to create songs with tape loop drones and then, successively I add the guitar and synth bass lines on it. It depends on the daily inspiration.

The tape loops are created modifing old cassette tapes, cutting and reassembling the tape to make and endless loop to record drones and other sounds on it.

The inspiration of this techniques came from William Basinski and Amulets.

All the songs are inspired by the ambient music of Basinski, Fennesz, John Foxx and Brian Eno.

The first song I've written for Atlas was the title track, created from a tape loop drone and then developed with guitar chords progression and bass lines.

The song, together with many others from the album, was on the playlist of my live gigs during all 2023 tour in UK.

The song I love the most is Quiet Before The Storm, the second track of the album, which was written during a stormy day at the beginning of 2024.

It starts with a guitar loop, I've used a lot in the past on my channel, and then develops with bass synth lines and a lot of guitar drones and soundscapes.

Laguna, is basically an improvisation on guitar processed thru the Hologram Electronics Infinite Jets, inspired by the landscape near Marceddì in Sardinia.A first version of the track appears on my channel featured in the Ambient Guitar Session 52.

Montiferru, the closing song of the album, was written in july 2021, inspired by the dramatic wildfires that burned thousands of acres of the Monti Ferru's forests, and since 2021 it often appears on my liveset tracklist.

Up Towards The Sky is slow cinematic song with a great reverberated atmosphere that takes the listeners up in the clouds with a lot of guitar textures.

The idea of writing this song came up to me during one of my flights from Cagliari to London, going to perform in the UK.

Watching the clouds in nighttime from the plane's window, they looked like a white ethereal field lighted by the moon, this dreamy landscape inspired me the chord progression of the song.

The two songs, Leave No Shadows On The Ground and Desert Plain, were written and recorded together during the same evening session.

They were basically written with guitar, while making experiments with reverb and delay pedals on my pedalboard.

Chariots is a long guitar drone written in 2021 and left behind, waiting to be modified and improved.

I've added some guitar parts in June 2024.

The Last Time and Gloom are inspired by the sad news we always read, listen to and watch everyday on the media. Distortions and heavy guitar textures are featured on these songs caracterized by slow chord progressions and soundscapes arrangements. The whole album runs fast in about half an hour, an unusual duration for an ambient work.

The album has been published by Cyclical Dreams label in January 2025.
